Former Bellator featherweight champion Daniel Straus was involved in a motorcycle accident on December 17th. The extent of his injuries was never revealed, but it was reported that the 33-year-old fighter’s mishap was a “near-fatal” one.
No updates from the camp have been released since the accident, until Monday, when Straus himself posted a photo on Instagram. He apparently was given a bleak prognosis by one of his doctors but seems to be defying it outright.

Straus holds a professional record of 25-8 (with 10 victories via stoppage). He is currently on a two-fight losing streak courtesy of Patricio “Pitbull” Freire and Emmanuel Sanchez, respectively. His April 2017 loss to Pitbull saw him relinquish his title back to the Brazilian, more than a year after winning the belt from Freire. Straus last saw action at Bellator 184 in October in Oklahoma, where he lost via third-round submission.
