World Boxing Council super featherweight champion Miguel “Alacran” Berchelt (31-1, 28 Kos) was tightening his defense for the expected onslaught of Japan’s Takashi Miura (31-3-2, 24 Kos).

Also in attendance, and sweating it out, were Cuban Sullivan Barrera (19-1, 14 Kos.) and Joe Smith, JR. (23-1, 19 Kos.), holder of the international light heavyweight of the WBC.

Berchelt commented: “We arriving well prepared for this combat, after training in Hermosillo, Sonora, guided by Alfredo Caballero. We know all about Takashi Miura and I am excited to fight for the third time in the United States and second time as main event on HBO. I am very happy to be here with all my Mexican fans.”

Miura with the help of an interpreter calmly responded: “I am well prepared to regain my WBC title. Berchelt is a great champion but this Saturday, will certainly be my time again. The title definitely goes to Japan with me.”

Smith Jr. said: “I`m determined to continue my successful career. I`ll successfully defend my International title and after this fight I will look for an opportunity, for the world title that Adonis Stevenson has. But first things first. ”

Barrera commented: “We come 100%, well prepared all set to conquer Smith´s International title this Saturday. I do respect Joe, it’s a tough fight for both of us, but I’m focused on winning to seek a rematch with Andre Ward. I’m a significantly better fighter than when I faced Ward. We have improved a lot, I already have 20 fights, and we are constantly acquiring more experience and knowledge. ”
