A highly anticipated meeting between two of Europe’s standout middleweight prospects, Fabian Edwards and Costello Van Steenis, has been booked for the co-main event of Bellator London on May 16.
Bellator confirmed the fight via press release on Thursday morning.
Edwards (9-0-0) is one of the most talked about European prospects in the sport and has been in sensational form under the Bellator banner, having claimed five wins in as many outings under the banner since joining the pro rans. Edwards’ last win came against U.K. rival Mike Shipman who he defeated via split decision in London in November – a win that he felt cemented his spot as the best middleweight in the U.K. and Ireland.
“The Assassin” underlined his intentions to claim the unofficial title of best middleweight in Europe via a clash with Van Steenis shortly after the close win over “Seabass”.
Van Steenis (12-2-0) is the understudy of Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi. Although a recent trip to the U.S. saw him snap a win streak of six when he met John Salter, Van Steenis made an argument for being the most impressive young middleweight on Bellator’s roster when he ran through Shipman at Bellator 223 in London last June.
