Fabricio Werdum open to career in pro wrestling and UFC at the same time

Could Fabricio Werdum be considering a career in pro wrestling? While he doesn’t seem like the best fit ever for a company like the WWE, Werdum told MMA Fighting that he’s considering taking up sports entertainment as a side job, feeling he can do both at the same time:

”I think that both (at the same time) is doable. You can do WWE. … If I had the opportunity I’d fight there, no problem. It’s financially great. Fight at WWE, a spectacle that is fun to do. I’d definitely do it. I have a meeting Thursday about it, doing both (UFC and WWE). I want to fight, doesn’t matter where.”

He continued on, explaining where his niche might be in the squared circle:

”I’m fluent in Spanish, so I can do a character that speaks Spanish,” Werdum said. “That would be cool. I’d really like to have this opportunity to do this and captivate the Latin audience because they really love WWE. I’d be thrilled to do a fight there, or more, or a contract, because there’s no problem with the UFC since it’s not a real fight, it’s more of a show.”

But there’s one big caveat to this – Werdum didn’t actually mean working with or meeting with the WWE. He clarified on Twitter that he just used the term WWE as something interchangeable with pro wrestling:

Hey guys to make it clear I spoke about maybe doing Lucha libre in México. Not WWE. I meant wwe style(pro wrestling) but I am a @ufc fighter and my focus 100% is fighting in the ufc and whatever decision I make after my fighting career @danawhite @Mickmaynard2 will be involved.

Fair enough. People refer to the sport of MMA as “UFC” all the time because that’s the biggest thing associated with it. But he does backtrack a bit in that tweet, now saying it’s something that he would do after his UFC career was over. On top of that, lucha libre is known as a very acrobatic style of pro wrestling that generally involves smaller guys, so it’s unclear what kind of role Werdum could play in that area.

In the meantime, Werdum will battle with Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC London next weekend.
