At only 22 years of age, Fabiana Bytyqi won the World Boxing Council`s Women‘s Atomweight Crown, defeating Muay Thai superstar Denise Castle by unanimous decision in Usti nad Labem.
Bytyqi is not only the youngest reigning WBC Women’s Champ but also the first female fighter from the Czech Republic to ever win a World Championship.
Despite her youth, Bytyqi proved to be a seasoned fighter and just as well, because Castle fought very hard throughout. Castle was moving a lot and throwing clusters of punches, but Bytyqi was able to block many of them, responding with sharp counters.
It was a clean, fair and entertaining fight with little work for Referee Juergen Langos, with many close rounds. Ultimately, Bytyqi beat Castle to the punch to secure victory, in a very entertaining fight. Judges Andreas Stenberg and Irene Kostenko scored it 100-90, Przemyszlaw Moszumanski saw it 99-91, all in favor of the new champion.
Fifteen hundred fans at Sluneta Sportcentrum in Usti nad Labem celebrated the local hero but also applauded valiant Castle who tried her absolute best from the opening to the final bell, showing grit, determination and class. The championship bout was the main event of a ten-bout card which was broadcasted live on TV Nova.
Bytyqi who will most probably make her first title defense in December in Albania is on colission course with the winner of the interim championship rematch between Brenda Flores and Louisa Hawton.
