FAMOUS FIVE HONORED BY MEXICO CITY’S BOXING COMMISSION

The first bunch of five to be honored by Mexico City’s Boxing Commission for their outstanding contribution to the sport, were honored at the weekly presser of the World Boxing Council.

Born in Cuba, adopted and beloved by Mexico, Former WBC featherweight champion Ultiminio Ramos was introduced by Carlos Zarate who described his friend as a truly great fighter, charismatic and a firm favorite, saying all Mexico loves him.

Ringside Doctor Horacio Ramirez who’s tended and cared for literally thousands of boxers and wrestlers over decades. This covers the national and international scene. The applause was led by Fantasma…the Chief of Mexico City’s Wrestling Commision.

Former twice national light heavyweight champion David “Maceton” Cabrera, also fought Marvin Camel for the cruiserweight crown. His career was almost over before it started. A Police Officer, he seriously injured his right leg in a motorcycle accident. Defying the odds, he recovered to build a magnificent boxing career.

The award for legendary boxing manager Lupe Serrano, was collected by his son Lalo who thanked Mauricio Sulaiman and Don Victor Cota for their kindness and friendship.
A gym named after him in Iztalapa, Lupe guided the successful careers of so many fighters and champions.

Then the legendary boxing commentator Dr Alfonso Morales. Astute, knowledgeable but also passionate about boxing and wrestling, he is one of Mexico’s fantastic commentators. Erudite, his use of the letter R in his diction, “Rrrrrreally”  defines his enthusiasm and scene setting verve.

He was accompanied by his loving and supportive family.

Each person awarded was presented a pot etched with their portrait and a boxing ring shaped trophy.
