JOHORE BAHRU, Malaysia – Professional boxing returned to entertain its ardent fans and supporters in the southern state of peninsula Malaysia Johore Bahru last September 23 with yet another exciting treat for fans alike.
With an event billed as the “Johore Bahru Mayors Boxing Cup 2017”, promoted by the states premier flag bearer of the sport “FH Promotions”.
The cards consisted of a mix of debutants and professional boxers who displayed encouraging performances throughout the show.
Amongst the highlights were Malaysian Eddey Kalai, who marked his first victory as a pro after defeating rookie Samuel Roy of Malaysia.
The experienced boxer wasted little to no time by defeating his opponent by way of TKO.
The crowd was further entertained with the appearance of former state boxer Muhammad Ali Karim of Johore.
Ali, being an experienced amateur displayed textbook style boxing for a bout that was scheduled for 4 rounds and winning it unanimously against Ridzuan Dahari of Malaysia.
After a successive buildup of undercard bouts it was then time for the co-feature bout, which was between Jeson Umbal (16-5,11 KO) against fellow Filipino Jon Jon Estrada (10-4-1,9 KO) .
Both fighters displayed a preeminent “Mano-A-Mano” style of fighting by constantly exchanging rapid blows that eventually got the better of Estrada when he was downed by Jeson in the 4th round.
The main event featured the poster boy of Johore – Muhamad Farkhan Haron (5-0,5 KOs) squaring off against top seed cruiserweight from Thailand Don Parueang (8-4, 8 KOs).
Both fighters traded blows as Farkhan worked on his uppercut while Don constantly utilized his hooks to demobilize Farkhan. After an initial slow start in the first round the action escalated when Farkhan dominated the proceeding rounds.
His constant uppercuts proved worthy after a solid left uppercut landed flush on Don knocking him out at the 3rd round.
The fans were ecstatic to witness the local warrior mark his victory. This makes Farkhan still undefeated with a 100 % knock out ratio.
When asked about his approach to the fight Farkhan was confident enough to say that he was looking for the KO punch to solidify the notion of him being a power puncher.
Farkhan who holds the WBC Asia silver cruiserweight and WBC Asia light heavyweight title said that he will be defending his titles sometime in March next year in the Philippines.
