Though Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva being a popular talent on the Russian MMA circuit, Fedor Emelianenko is not particularly interested in a rematch with the Brazilian heavyweight.
Six years removed from the first meeting in Strikeforce, a fight that resulted in a TKO loss for the Stary Oskol native, Russian promotion Fight Nights Global showed interest in scheduling a rematch between Silva and the Last Emperor in 2017. Bigfoot, who recently signed a three-fight contract with Fight Nights and is expected to face Vitaly Minakov in his first fight, seemed open to the fight. However, Fedor sees little reason to avenge his loss to the Brazilian.
“No, I have no desire for a rematch with Silva,” Fedor told media members at a press conference last week (h/t Tass.ru). “My immediate goal is the June 24 fight with Mitrione. Good luck to Vitaly Minakov that he wins [against Bigfoot].”
Fedor is scheduled to face Matt Mitrione in the co-main event of the Bellator 180 PPV. The event will take place on June 24 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
