FILIPINO PUGILIST PAALAM SHOCKS RIO OLYMPIC AND WORLD CHAMPION ZOIROV IN A SPLIT DECISION WIN

The Tokyo Olympics will see another champion for the Fly Weight Division soon as Philippine pride Carlo Paalam shocks the 2016 Rio Gold medalist, Asian Games silver medalist, and World Champion Shakhobidin Zoirov in the second round of their Quarter-Final meet today at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo.

Zoirov is the only medalist of Uzbekistan in the Men’s Fly Weight Olympic History as Paalam will be the first Filipino to enter the medal finish in this category.

Paalam will go against Japan’s Ryomei Tanaka. Japan’s only medalist in this division was a bronze medal from Kiyoshi Tanabe in 1960.

Semi-Finals is scheduled for August 5 at 4:30 PM, EST.
