THE formal announcement of the next title fight of IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas of the Philippines will be made on Dec. 16 at the Makati Square Cinema in Makati City.
“It will be announced by Sean Gibbons during a press conference before the boxing promotion at Makati Square Cinema Arena,” said Ancajas’ trainer-manager Joven Jimenez during the launching of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup held Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
According to Boxrec.com, Ancajas is already scheduled to defend his title against Mexican Israel “Jiga” Gonzales (21W-1L-0D, 8 KOs) on February 3 at the Bank of America Center in Corpus Christi.
“Siguro baka yun na ang kalaban ni Jerwin. Pero ipa formalize pa talaga yan sa presscon,” said Jimenez.
Ancajas, however, has already started his training in Magallanes, Cavite this week.
“Medyo light training muna kami,” said Jimenez.
Ancajas, on the other hand, said that he has started to reduce his weight from 140 lbs. to 132 lbs.
“Hindi ako puedeng kumain ng marami sa Pasko at New Year,” said Ancajas.
Ancajas and his team will still have to view the videos of Gonzales’ past fights on Youtube in order to study the moves of the Mexican fighter.
Meanwhile, Ancajas and his team will be having a Christmas party after the boxing event at Makati Square. They will be distributing goods and gift packs to the boxers and trainers.
“Magbibigay din po ng pamasko si Sen. Manny Pacquiao,” said Jimenez. (LITO DELOS REYES)
