Former title contender Cat Zingano released from the UFC

Cat Zingano is no longer part of the UFC roster.

The former bantamweight title contender has been released from the UFC following seven fights with the promotion dating back to 2013.

Sources close to the situation confirmed Zingano’s release to MMA Fighting on Wednesday following an initial report from MMAJunkie.

Zingano last fought this past December at UFC 232 where she suffered a first-round TKO loss to Megan Anderson at featherweight. The fight ended under bizarre circumstances after Anderson landed a head kick with her toe poking Zingano in the eye and she was unable to continue afterwards.

The loss dropped Zingano to 1-4 in her past five fights with her only win coming against Marion Reneau in 2018.

Zingano’s UFC career was mired in ups and downs after she made an immediate impact in her debut with a TKO victory over Miesha Tate, which was supposed to secure her spot as a coach on “The Ultimate Fighter” opposite Ronda Rousey.

Unfortunately, Zingano suffered a torn ACL in her knee after that fight and she was sidelined for more than a year as she recovered from surgery.

When she returned, Zingano dispatched Amanda Nunes in impressive fashion with a third-round TKO but then she fell to Rousey in a title fight five months later.

Injuries and time off continued to plague Zingano throughout her UFC career and now she will have to look for a new fighting home following her release from the promotion.
