Frankie Edgar was a huge underdog entering his first title fight against B.J. Penn at UFC 112 in 2010. “The Answer” ended up pulling an upset with a unanimous decision verdict, becoming the man to dethrone “The Prodigy” who won the 155-pound belt in two years prior.

The 37-year-old Edgar is once again placed in the same position as he challenges Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 240. Currently a +245 coming into the bout, he is looking to pull off the same feat he did nine years ago.

“A little over nine years ago, I fought a guy I wasn’t supposed to be in there with, who was supposed to wipe the mat with me, and I proved some people wrong,” Edgar told MMA Junkie. “So this is definitely a familiar position for me.”

Edgar’s confidence comes from how he says they’ve studied Hollway’s tendencies during fights.

“Max keeps getting better and better every fight, but some guys just do stuff that they always do, and those are the things we’ve been working on since the very first camp we started getting ready for him,” Edgar said of the reigning 145-pound champion.

UFC 240 takes place on July 27th in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
