Frankie Edgar: I deserve to fight the winner of Max Holloway vs. Brian Ortega

After suffering his first-ever stoppage loss at UFC 222 last March, Frankie Edgar was able to bounce back in Atlantic City two weeks ago with a unanimous decision win over Cub Swansonin their rematch. Now back on the winning track, “The Answer” believes he should be next in line to face the winner of the Max Holloway vs. Brian Ortega title fight at UFC 226.

“I still think I’m the guy,” Edgar said on a recent episode of The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting). “Sh-t, I risked that shot, maybe I shouldn’t have like people said, but I’m going to do it every single time. I still believe I can win that fight (with Ortega). I was doing well in that fight, obviously, I got caught and Ortega did a good job of finishing.”

“But yeah, I want the winner. I think I deserve it. I’m No. 3. We’ll see what happens.”

Many were worried about Edgar jumping right back in just seven weeks after being knocked out. But for the former lightweight champion, it was a decision that paid off big-time.

“Everything’s got to work out the right way, I guess,” Edgar said. “I did my part last Saturday, I’m glad, that’s why I jumped in quick because I want to be back knocking on this door and here I am knocking on this door. I think I’m the guy.”

UFC 226 takes place on July 7th in Las Vegas. It will be headlined by the heavyweight super-fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
