On Thursday, Conor McGregor made some noise on social media when he declared that he was “fighting again, period”. He even revealed that he offered to step in as a replacement for the injured Max Holloway and face Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 next weekend.
“The Notorious” claimed that the matchup never ended up being finalized because “there wasn’t enough time to generate the money that the UFC would need.” But according to Edgar’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, there is absolutely no truth to McGregor’s statements.
”He’s become just like Floyd Mayweather. This guy doesn’t want to fight,” Abdelaziz told ESPN. “He does what Floyd Mayweather does. He just wants to stay in the media. He likes the attention, but he’s not getting it because he’s not fighting. He should have fought Frankie two years ago. He ducked him for two years. He’s full of sh-t. He’s a liar.”
After his ESPN interview, Abdelaziz had something more to say about the Irish superstar.
UFC 222 takes place on Saturday, March 3rd, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Edgar is scheduled to co-headline the event against the undefeated Brian Ortega.
