Freddie Roach spoke candidly about how he heard that his working relationship with Manny Pacquiao was over (at least for now) – but has wished ‘Pacman’ nothing but the best in his upcoming fight.

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach will not be in Manny Pacquiao’s corner next month on July 15th when he squares off against Lucas Matthysse.

That said, Pacquiao recently metnioned that it is just an experiment to see how he does with his other trainer in his corner.

Speaking to Barbershop Conversations recently Roach said of the split and Pacquiao’s upcoming fight:

“I hope he does well. Yeah, I mean, I had 16 great years with the kid so I hope he does well. I wish him nothing but the best.”

He added on how he found out he would not be cornering the fight against Matthysse:

“Same way everyone else did. By the newspapers. No calls but what are you going to do?”

Never say never on a reunion between the two.

They worked with one another for a long, long time and achieved more than pretty much anyone in boxing history as far as a boxer-coach team.

Eight world titles in eight different weight classes, no less.

Speaking on his favorite memory with Pacquiao, Roach concluded:

“We had a relationship that was unbelievable for 16 years. Most marriages don’t last that long! The thing is I wish I got a call from him because I would go for free.”

Hopefully the two are back together before Pacquiao retires.
