GAB celebrates Apolinario’s victory

The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) celebrated the recent victory of new International Boxing Organization (IBO) Flyweight champion Dave Apolinario of Maasim, Sarangani Province last July 30 in East London, South Africa.

Apolinario became the new of the world by knocking out South African three-division world champion Gideon Buthelezi.

The 23-year-old Apolinario is currently the Philippines’ only world champion, with a perfect record of 17 wins and 0 losses, with 12 knockouts (KOs).

“We are excited for Philippine professional boxing. Not only is it recovering from the effects of the pandemic, but it is also invigorated by the recent victory,”, said Atty. Ermar Benitez, GAB OIC and Legal Division Chief.

Apolinario was met at the airport by GAB and some friends.

“As of today, we have one world champion and 21 regional champions. We might even have as much as 26, depending on the results of the upcoming matches of our fighters in the coming days here and abroad,” Ms. Jackie Lou Ornido, GAB OIC Boxing and Other Contact Sports Division Chief, shared.
