FINALLY, the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) of the Philippines and the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) has formally signed a memorandum of understanding to assure the safety of the professional boxers as well as the quality of fights between the two countries.
The MOU was signed during the sidelines of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Convention held at the Hilton Hotel St. Petersburg in Florida, USA last May 22-24 but it was forged during a personal family trip to Japan by GAB Chairman Abraham Kahlil “Baham” Mitra, when he visited the JBC Office on his own personal expense.
“This has been a practice in the past. But now that it is a formal document, it will now be a standard which everyone from both countries shall abide by,” said Mitra.
Mitra signed the MOU in behalf of GAB while JBC was represented by its Executive Secretary Tsuyoshi Yasukochi.
GAB and JBC agreed “to require the reciprocal submission of favorable endorsements from respective governing bodies of the country where applicant boxer, official or any person connected in the conduct of professional boxing is a citizen, as one of the pre-requisites for the issuance of GAB or JBC license, as the case may be.”
They also both agreed that “GAB shall require the submission of a favorable endorsement of the JBC of the government of Japan before a GAB license may be issued in favor of Japanese boxer, official or any person connected in the conduct of professional boxing.”
“Likewise, the JBC shall require the submission of a favorable endorsement of the GAB of the government of the Philippines before a JBC license may be issued in favor of Filipino boxer, official or any person connected in the conduct of professional boxing.”
The MOU shall be effective immediately upon execution hereof and shall be valid until mutually revoked by the parties.
