Undefeated Reymart “Assassin” Gaballo of Gen. Santos City scored a split decision victory over Emmanuel Rodriguez of Puerto Rico to win the interim World Boxing Council World Bantamweight title last Dec. 19 at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.
The 24-year-old Gaballo landed telling blows against Rodriguez to earn the scores of Judges John McKaie (115-113) and Don Trella (116-112).
Judge David Sutherland saw it 118-110 for Rodriguez.
Gaballo improved his record to 24 wins with 20 knockouts while Rodriguez suffered his second setback against 19 wins.
“I am so proud of you Mart! God bless you and God is great! You did it,” said JC Manangquil, president of Sanman Boxing Promotions.
Manager Dexter Tan, on the other hand, said: “The best Christmas gift ever Green Gold Belt WBC.”
