Gallen wins ‘The Rumble’

By sharks.com.au

Sharks skipper Paul Gallen has extended his professional boxing record to 8-0 with a unanimous points decision victory at The Rumble last night.

In front of a capacity crowd of almost 800 in the Showroom at Sharks Leagues Club, Gallen managed to get the better of an extremely capable opponent in Puna Rasaubale, earning a clear cut points win on all three judges cards.

To his credit Rasaubale, a former Commonwealth Games amateur boxing representative for Fiji, gave Gallen what was perhaps the toughest fight of his boxing career with the bout going six bruising rounds.

The Gallen-Rasaubale heavyweight main event was the final bout on a night of exciting boxing action, with a Footy Fight Night Challenge, matching senior players from local junior league clubs, four quality amateur fights and three professional contests.

In the main support bout, fought for the Interim WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Title, Kye MacKenzie defeated Kiwi Nort Beauchamp over 10 rounds. MacKenzie was declared a clear winner by the judges in a dominant performance.

Earlier in a heavyweight clash Jacob Malkoun stopped Queenslander Matthew Saville in the second round.

As for the Footy Challenge, which brought together five Cronulla district junior league clubs, with the amateur fighters training under the guidance of Ryan Waters at Southside Boxing in preparation for the night, Cronulla Caringbah walked away with the $3,500 winners prize after beating De La Salle in the final.

Opal Solar were the major sponsor of The Rumble, with Ryan Waters and Left Hook promotions the event organisers.
