Two-division world champion and Brooklyn fan favorite Danny “Swift” Garcia will make his super welterweight debut against contender Jose Benavidez Jr. in a 12-round showdown headlining an undercard on Saturday, July 30.
For Garcia, with this super welterweight debut he is looking to position himself in the division and win a third world crown in his career. Danny feels confident and has worked to keep his physical and mental fitness in peak condition.
“I’ve been away for a bit, but I’m back in the gym like I never left. I feel great mentally, physically and spiritually. I’m ready to give the fans a great fight. I have fought at 140 and 147, for 13 years. I always felt that my natural weight was bigger. I feel like this weight fits me well. I feel young and fresh. I am strong and with much more resistance”, commented García
For his part, Benavidez Jr., the older brother of undefeated two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez, wants to score a big win to move closer to a world title shot.
“A win over Danny Garcia would be a big step for me. The winner of this fight will rise again in the ranking. We have both lost before and I think that has made us stronger fighters. We have learned from our mistakes. We’re going to be dropping bombs all night. Stay tuned, because this is going to be the Fight of the Year, I guarantee it,” said Benavidez.
