The Barclays Center in Brooklyn has become one of boxing’s top venues since it opened in 2012, and the arena may play host to the March 4 fight between Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman, according to Stephen Espinoza of Showtime.
Garcia (33-0, 19 KO) and Thurman (27-0, 22 KO) will meet for Garcia’s WBC and Thurman’s WBA welterweight titles in a highly-anticipated fight, which will air on either CBS or Showtime. The two are both in their prime, top welterweights, and undefeated.
Both have also headlined at the Barclays Center before. Thurman defeated Shawn Porter there on June 25, and Jan Zaveck back in March 2013. Garcia is 5-0 at the building, and headlined the first card there on October 20, 2012, defeating Erik Morales. He’s also beaten Zab Judah, Rod Salka, Lamont Peterson, and Paulie Malignaggi at the Barclays Center.
If the fight does take place in Brooklyn, that would in theory give Garcia at least a closer-to-home advantage, as he’s a Philadelphia native and Thurman, a Floridian, has fought in the area much less in his career.
