Trainer David Coldwell says that super bantamweight Gavin McDonnell is looking to impress when he faces veteran Stuart Hall on Saturday in Newcastle, and that if he can do so, he’s aiming for another world title shot in the near future.

From Sky Sports:

Right now, Gavin is at his peak, but he knows he needs a big performance. We don’t just want to win, we want to look good doing so and make another statement in the division.

Ideally, we want another super-bantamweight world title shot before the end of the year, that’s the plan, but we just take things one fight at a time, it’d be foolish to look past Hall. The focus is on winning this and only then will we look at what options are available to us next.

McDonnell (19-1-2, 5 KO) fought Rey Vargas for the vacant WBC 122-pound title in February 2017, losing a majority decision in Hull. The 32-year-old from Doncaster has won three straight fights since, including a strong victory over rated prospect Gamal Yafai on March 3.

If McDonnell can look good against Hall (21-6-2, 7 KO), there’s really no reason he can’t find himself back in the title scene at 122, where the titles are held by Vargas, Isaac Dogboe, Daniel Roman, and Ryosuke Iwasa.
