Gervonta Davis is an immensely talented young man. Unfortunately, it looks as though he’s following in the foot steps of many immensely talented men before him. “Tank” is facing complaints of assault, including a felony (first-degree aggravated assault), stemming from an incident on August 1st. He is currently out on $100,000 bail after a September 19th court appearance and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 19th for a preliminary hearing.
As the Baltimore Sun points out, the charges were filed by an unnamed individual, not the police, and no details about the incident have yet been released.
Davis (19-0, 18 KO) missed weight before his recent title defense against Francisco Fonseca and turned in a middling performance before stopping his foe with a fairly obvious rabbit punch. All signs point to the sorts of discipline issues that have sunk top-tier prospects in the past.
Davis, for his part, doesn’t seem concerned.
Unsurprisingly, Adrien Broner’s name is being bandied about in the replies. You’ve got a perfect cautionary tale in front of you, Tank. Don’t screw this up.
