Gervonta Davis’ April 21st return on the undercard of Adrien Broner vs. Omar Figueroa has hit a bit of a snag, though thankfully not as significant a snag as the ones Broner and Figueroa are going through. The planned bout between Davis and Billy Dib appears to have fallen through and ESPN reports that, as a result, “Tank” will likely face former WBA featherweight champ Jesus Cuellar.
The WBA, also known as the organization that explicitly said they’d work to reduce the number of titles in play, is apparently looking to make a new belt for these two because boxing is dumb.
Cuellar (28-2, 21 KO) is unquestionably an upgrade from Dib, at least, even if he’s a featherweight who hasn’t fought since a loss to Abner Mares two Decembers ago. He has a solid body of work at 126 and hits plenty hard; if Davis (19-0, 18 KO) comes in flat again, he could be in real trouble.
