Gervonta Davis will take on a new challenge in his career on June 26th. The southpaw fighter will move up to 140 pounds to face World Boxing Association (WBA) champion, Mario Barrios, at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Davis is the WBA Lightweight Champion and decided to make the jump to the next weight class. Although many specialists have reservations about “Tank’s” weight gain, the American phenom assured that he will put on a show.
“Moving up to 140 pounds is a big challenge, but I’ve been working hard in camp and I’ll be ready. Thanks to my entire team for making this historic boxing event possible. Be sure to get your tickets early because the fight is definitely selling out! Keep supporting me and I’ll fight for you!” assured Davis.
“Atlanta welcomed me with open arms for my fight against Gamboa and I couldn’t wait to come back and headline a spectacular Showtime PPV card. Mario Barrios is an undefeated champion, but he’s never faced anyone like me before,” said the 26-year-old fighter.
Mario Barrios will make the second defense of his black and gold belt against Davis, in a very interesting fight on paper. The champion comes in with a record of 26 wins, no losses, and 17 KOs, while Gervonta has 24 wins, 23 of them by KO.
