Gleison Tibau will fight outside the UFC for the first time in more than a decade when he steps into the cage at Golden Boy Promotion’s MMA event on Nov. 24, the MMA veteran told MMA Fighting.
Oscar de la Hoya’s company will produce its first-ever MMA card in Inglewood, Calif., with a trilogy fight between Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell as the main event. According to the Brazilian, Golden Boy Promotions is currently looking for an opponent to face him at that event.
“It’s going to be a great show,” Tibau told MMA Fighting. “I’m still feeling weird after more than a decade in the UFC. Everything is so new after years under the UFC brand, inside that Octagon. It’s a new life now, a new cage, a new division. Everything is new. I can’t wait to show I still have it.”
Tibau competed 28 times under the UFC banner since 2006, going 16-12 with wins over the likes ifRafael dos Anjos, Jeremy Stephens, Caol Uno, Francisco Trinaldo, Pat Healy, Jamie Varner,Norman Parke and Terry Etim.
The 35-year-old veteran will be competing in MMA for the 48th time when he enters the cage at The Forum on Nov. 24, and will do so as a welterweight. Tibau lost his last four in the UFC.
“I’m feeling super well at 170 pounds,” Tibau said. “I feel stronger, more explosive. I will be able to impose my pressure, strength and explosiveness in the fight.”
