This Saturday, April 29 is Glory 40 Copenhagen, featuring a Middleweight world title fight. The show airs on UFC Fight Pass at 1:00 p.m. ET for the Superfight Series, with the Glory 40 main card to follow at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN3. Here’s a look at the card:

C. JASON WILNIS (30-6-1 Overall; 7-4 Glory) VS. #1 SIMON MARCUS (45-3-2 Overall; 5-2-1 Glory) – Glory Middleweight Title
The main event here is a great one, as Jason Wilnis makes his 2nd Middlweight title defense, taking on the man he beat for that belt. Wilnis and Marcus first met at Glory 20 two years ago, with Marcus taking the split decision win. They rematched at Glory 33 last September after Marcus had won the title, with Wilnis scoring the upset KO win. Now, they settle the score with a rubber match for divisional dominance.

Wilnis is a Dutch fighter who has been around the game for a long time, first making a name for himself back in K-1 MAX. He’s always been a solid fighter, but has evolved into a great fighter recently. He’s technically sound, he’s got power, and he knows how to deal with a wide range of opponents. Wilnis is currently on a 5 fight win streak, which includes the title win and a successful defense against Israel Adesanya, and you have to go back to 2013 and a fight with Artem Levin to see a clear, definitive Wilnis loss.

Marcus was an undefeated world Muay Thai champion when he came to Glory in 2014. He’s undeniably a top level talent, but at this point, it has to be said that there are obvious flaws in his kickboxing game. He has three losses in kickboxing rules, all stoppages, all from fighting too casually with sloppy defense. Wilnis figured it out last time, and made him pay. That said, when he’s on, Marcus is a scarily effective fighter, using his precision and sharp strikes to shred opponents. He’s 2-0 since the loss to Wilnis, both in quick, dominant wins. Here, he’ll have to make some adjustments to overcome how Wilnis won last time, and as much as I am a fan of him, I see that as a harder path than for Wilnis winning.

Prediction: Jason Wilnis, KO

GLORY 40 CARD

Outside of the excellent main event, the rest of the card here takes a bit of a step down. As always, there’s a contender tournament, this time in the Middleweight division. Semifinal #1 is the debuting Burim Rama vs. Alex Pereira – a Glory 14 tournament champion who has been fighting outside of Glory chiefly in Brazil for the past two years. On the other side is Yousri Belgaroui, finalist in the Glory 34 tournament, taking on another debuting fighter, Agron Pretini. It’s probably Belgaroui’s tournament to lose, though Pereira’s power could be a spoiler. Also on the card is my pick for Fight of the Night (outside of the main event): Niclas Larsen vs. Yodkhunpon Sitmonchai. This is a Lightweight fight between decorated and exciting fighters – should be a good one.

SUPERFIGHT SERIES

The Superfight Series on Fight Pass is headlined by American Richard Abraham vs. England’s Jamie Bates. Abraham debuted for Glory in 2016 and had a great year, going 4-0 and winning the Glory 30 tournament. He comes in off a close loss at Glory 38. Bates won the recent Road to Glory UK tournament and makes his main card debut here – they certainly are throwing him in deep right off the bat. The rest of the card has some good fighters including K-1 veteran Freddy Kemayo, Andy Souwer protege Josh Jauncey, and veteran Mohammed El-Mir who fought all the way back at Glory 1.
