Glover Teixeira injured, out of UFC Sao Paulo main event vs. Jimi Manuwa

Less than two weeks after it was announced that light heavyweight veteran Glover Teixeira would headline UFC Fight Night: Sao Paulo against Jimi Manuwa, Texieira has already been forced to withdraw.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani confirmed on Tuesday that Teixeira has pulled out due to a shoulder injury, and it’s reportedly the same one he’s been dealing with since his title fight loss vs. Jon Jones back in 2014. According to the report, there is concern that this injury could require surgery, but no decision has been made.

Teixeira (27-7) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Corey Anderson, and has alternated wins and losses over his last five fights. He ended 2017 on a high note, TKOing Misha Cirkunov, but he’s still searching for his first win in 2018, and given the shoulder injury, it’s possible we won’t see him until 2019.

Manuwa (17-4) is on a two-fight losing streak, having suffered a knockout against Volkan Oezdemir and a decision setback vs. Jan Blachowicz. His last win was a first-round KO of Corey Anderson in the UFC London main event in March 2017.

UFC Fight Night: Sao Paulo takes place at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera on Saturday, September 22nd live on Fox Sports 1. The co-main event is slated to be a women’s bantamweight bout between Ketlen Vieira and Tonya Evinger.
