Glover Teixeira vs. Misha Cirkunov moved to UFC on FOX 26

UFC Sao Paulo took its first hit on Tuesday.

Glover Teixeira vs. Misha Cirkunov, slated as the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 119 in Brazil on Oct. 28, was moved to the UFC on FOX 26 card in Winnipeg, Canada, on Dec. 16. Teixeiragot injured in training and the promotion decided to postpone the match-up, the UFC announced.

Speaking with MMA Fighting, Teixeira said that his recent hand surgery was the reason why the fight got postponed.

“It wasn’t an injury, it was the hand surgery I did recently,” Teixeira said. “The doctor said there was a possibility I could fight in October and I accepted the fight because I thought I would be able to do it, because I wanted to fight in Brazil, but I rushed things. My hand is not 100 percent yet, so it’s better to move this fight to December.”

Teixeira (26-6) has fought twice in 2017, scoring a unanimous decision victory over Jared Cannonier in February but suffering a fifth-round knockout loss to Alexander Gustafsson three months later in Sweden.

Cirkunov (13-3) suffered his first loss inside the Octagon the same night in Sweden, a 28-second knockout defeat to Volkan Oezdemir that snapped his four-fight finishing streak under the UFC banner.

With Teixeira-Cirkunov moved to December, the UFC Sao Paulo event will now be co-headlined by Demian Maia vs. Colby Covington. Former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machidaheadlines the card versus Derek Brunson.
