Golovkin beats Jacobs says Eubank Jr.

By Eric Baldwin: Chris Eubank Jr. is picking IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to defeat Daniel Jacobs in their fight next month on March 18 on HBO PPV. Eubank Jr. thinks that he’ll ultimately be the one that hands the unbeaten Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) his first loss of his career in the near future.

When the two of them get around to facing each other is anyone’s guess. Eubank Jr. has a fight this Saturday night against IBO super middleweight champion Renold Quinlan (11-1, 7 KOs) on February 4 on ITV pay-per-view at the Olympia in London, England. Eubank Jr. is expected to win that fight.

Jacobs hasn’t faced a puncher in the category of a Golovkin during his career. The closest thing that Jacobs has come to a puncher is his fights against Peter Quillin and Dmitri Pirog. Jacobs stopped Quillin in the 1st round before tasting any of his punching power. Pirog stopped Jacobs in the 5th round in their fight in 2010.

Eubank Jr. said this to Fighthype.com about the Golovkin vs. Jacobs fight:

“Golovkin’s the favorite in any fight he has,” said Eubank Jr. about the Jacobs fight. “I think he will be beat Jacobs, which is good because then it leaves him open for me to be the first man to take that 0 from him,” said Eubank Jr.

The smart choice is to pick Golovkin to beat Jacobs. He’s the harder hitter of the two and the one that is more comfortable with slugging at close range. Jacobs has a lot of knockouts, but mostly they came against fighters that weren’t in the same class as him. Jacobs didn’t beat anyone good that had a lot of talent with the exception of Quillin, who he blitzed quickly in their fight in 2015.

It’s hard for Eubank Jr. to predict how the Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight will go. He thinks that it won’t be a mismatch.

Speaking about the Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight, Eubank Jr. said, “I wouldn’t say it’s a mismatch. Chavez Jr. is a decent fighter, a proud Mexican. So it’ll be an interesting fight to see. Chavez is a big guy as well. It’ll be interesting to see how Canelo deals with that. I lost a lot of respect for Alvarez giving up his world title so wouldn’t have to fight Golovkin. That tells me a lot about that man,” said Eubank Jr.

Former Canelo Alvarez opponent Liam Smith sees Chavez Jr. as a good measuring stick for Canelo to test himself.

Smith said this to Fighthype.com about the Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. fight:

“I’ve become a better fighter,” said Smith. “I think he’s just using him as a yardstick. He’s just testing himself. He’s done a little bit of a clever move. He’s a big, strong man. I’m curious to see what Chavez is like,” said Liam Smith.

Chavez Jr. is going to need to take a lot of heavy shots from Canelo to get into the second half of the fight, beause he’s going to be getting hit a lot in their fight. Sergio Martinez made Chavez Jr. look bad in their fight in 2012. That was the last time that Chavez Jr. fought someone good that was around the same size as Canelo.
