Golovkin: Canelo needs to change his style in order to win, not me!

As the September 15 rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez inches closer, Golovkin insists that he’ll bring the same style to the ring and that it’s Canelo who needs to change things up in order to take a victory.

From WBN:

“I will not change my style. Canelo is the one who needs to change… if he wants to win.

”As the champion, I know my strategy and of course in this upcoming fight, a lot will depend on Canelo and the more Canelo had show, the more interesting will be the fight.”

The real question here is whether or not this strategy will benefit Golovkin come fight night. Personally I’m of the belief that Golovkin can’t do much differently in his approach against Canelo. But considering that the first fight was a draw and Golovkin wants to win emphatically this time around, might he need to change things up a little?

Golovkin clearly had at least some problems dealing with Canelo’s sharp and accurate counterpunching in their first meeting, almost surprising Golovkin with his hand speed advantage. And while Canelo was never able to completely dissuade Golovkin from coming forward in the fight, he was able to land effective shots to the body and was absolutely effective in making Golovkin fight with a respectable amount of caution (some might argue too much caution).

So tell me, fans, do you think if Golovkin turns in the same performance in this rematch that it’ll be sufficient enough for him score a win, or does Golovkin need to make some changes if he’s to win decisively?
