By Eric Baldwin: #4 WBA, #7 WBC light welterweight contender Adrian Granados (18-4-2, 12 Kos) is expecting his fight this Saturday night against #4 WBC Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) to be a war between them.
Granados is well familiar with Broner from sparring sessions with him in the past, and he knows exactly the type of game that he’ll be bringing to the ring with him on Saturday night in their fight on Showtime Championship Boxing from the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Broner is going to be big after he rehydrates. He was unable to make their 142 pound catch-weight, so he had the weight increased to 147. It remains to be seen whether Broner will be able to make that weight. He looks soft around the arms and shoulders in his recent training video.
It looks like Broner is carrying around excess fat. He’d not toned the way that normal light welterweights and welterweight are. That’s good news for the 27-year-old Granados, because he looks like he’s in great shape and ready to fight hard for a full 12 rounds if he has to.
In Broner’s two defeats at the pro level against Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter, he was beaten by a high volume punch attack by those two guys.
Maidana and Porter made it a point of throwing a lot of punches to keep Broner busy covering up. When Broner faces fighters that let their hands go, he tends to back up to the ropes and cover up with his shoulder roll defense. He ends up waiting too long and letting his opponents get the better of him. Broner’s mobility is not good despite him mimicking the boxing style of Floyd Mayweather Jr. Broner doesn’t have Mayweather’s hand speed, reflexes or mobility.
The Broner-Granados fight will be televised on Showtime Championship Boxing.
“I’m expecting a fire fight,” said Granados to Fighthype.com. “The two ways that I’ve explained this fight is we are going to be two pitbulls that are going in to fight each other and it’s going to be kill or be killed, or like he said, he’s a kid from the streets, well I am too. So imagine two celly’s in a jail cell and we are about to duke it out. That’s the way I see it,” said Granados.
