It didn’t take long for Greg Rebello to get a new opponent.
Less than 24 hours after it was reported by MMAjunkie that Mexico’s Oscar Ivan Cota would be forced to withdraw from his June 26 Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series heavyweight bout vs. Rebello due to visa issues, sources told MMA Fighting that Angel DeAnda has agreed to step in as a replacement.
This is good news for Rebello who is getting his second chance to earn a UFC contract after suffering a first-round knockout at the hands of Zu Anyanwu last July in season one of the Contender Series. The 36-year-old Rebello sports a 24-8 professional record.
In his most recent appearance, Rebello recorded a 23-second knockout win over 98-fight veteranTravis Wiuff in February to capture a vacant CES MMA heavyweight title.
DeAnda, 33, will also be competing on the Contender Series for a second time. He lost to Dan Spohn by first-round submission in week two of season one. “The Dream” has not fought since, but prior to that loss DeAnda had won six consecutive bouts.
Notable promotions that DeAnda (18-6) has fought for include the World Series of Fighting, Tachi Palace Fights, and Gladiator Challenge. He will be moving up to heavyweight after competing primarily at 205 and 185 pounds.
