Super middleweight contender George Groves is scheduled to get his fourth shot at a world title when he takes on Fedor Chudinov on the Brook-Spence undercard, May 27. And with a win Groves believes he’ll be able to set up a title unification with domestic rival James DeGale, telling Sky Sports:
“Yes certainly. Things have got to fall into place to make that sort of fight happen, but if I was a gambling man I would say it will happen,” said Groves, who claimed a majority decision win over DeGale in 2011.
However for that fight to make itself available, Groves will have to clear a hurdle he’s stumbled upon three times before — losing two world title shots against Carl Froch and another against Badou Jack.
“For me, I’ve got to go out and win this month, win a world title, and then we can talk sensibly about a James DeGale fight.
“He would love to throw some punches at me and likewise I would love to throw some back at him, so it makes sense to do it.”
Groves goes on by mentioning that he’s aware that he’ll be appearing on a big card topped by Kell Brook and Errol Spence Jr., but that he’s going to try and steal the show. What we can almost guarantee though — is that the next couple of weeks in boxing should prove to be pretty entertaining any way it goes.
