GUEVARA AND TOMOGDAN- A TOM AND JERRY CONTEST

Former WBC light flyweight champion Pedro Guevara (29-2-1, 17KOs) won a tough scrappy twelve round unanimous decision over Jerry Tomogdan (21-8-3, 9KOs)  of the Philippines, at the Centro de Usos Multiples, Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Originally,  Guevara was set for a rematch with World Boxing Council light flyweight champion Ganigan “Maravilla” Lopez (28-6, 17KOs), who suffered a severe calf injury and withdrew from the fight.
The  scorecards were   120-110, 120-108, 120-108.  The rematch between Ganigan Lopez and Pedro Guevara is being eyed for early 2017.
A clash of heads between southpaw Jerry and right handed Pedro midway through round one,  left the former dizzy and reeling, while the latter suffered a broken nose, which was leaking blood.  Pedro was in command throughout the fight, but Jerry who had been warned about his body punching, frustrated by  evading  or smothering  in clinches.  Youthful Jerry was also as tough as old boots. On several occasions his legs kinked, but he didn`t buckle and never went down.  Protecting a damaged nose, Pedro tended to be too tentative, trying to pick punches, rather than pressing the attack.

Pedro went all out in the last couple of rounds trying to sink the visitor, who`d flown twenty hours to reach The Peal of the Pacific. But Jerry who was in deep water, survived up to the final bell.
