FILIPINA boxer Norj Guro of RCJ Stable twice knocked down Japanese Umi Ishikawa in their championship fight to capture the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Atomweight crown via a unanimous decision last March 10 at San Pedro Plaza in San Pablo City, Laguna.
Guro first decked Ishikawa in Round 3 with a vicious combination then knocked down the 33-year old Japanese at the corner before the end of the final and sixth round.
The 27-year old native of Iligan City completely dominated the title fight with her relentless attack since the start of the fight.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa aking mga coaches at managers sa kanilang suporta sa akin,” said Guro, who is managed by the boxing couple Raffy and Clarissa Jimenez of Iligan City.
Guro’s trainers are Jephil Delima and Arnold Palafox.
“I thanked Norj for fighting hard and doing her best to win,” said Raffy Jimenez, who also thanked the whole RCJ team.
All three judges Virgilio Garcia, Danny Lopez and Oliver Garcia made identical scores of 60-53 in favor of Guro, who improved her record to 10 wins with four knockouts against seven losses and one draw.
It was Guro’s third straight win since she lost to another Japanese Ericka Hanawa by retirement in Round 2 last year in Japan.
Guro was also earlier stopped in the 8th round when he challenged WBC World female minimumweight champion Yuko Kuroki in 2016 at the Korakuen Hall.
Guro also fought but lost by a unanimous decision to Nimaphon Musika in their battle for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council female flyweight title in 2013 in Bungnamtao, Lom Sak.
She also lost by a UD to Hee Jung Yuh for the vacant International Female Boxers Association World super flyweight title in 2012 at the Jangyoo Sports Center in Gimhae City, South Korea.
Ishiwaka, on the other hand, suffered her only second setback against five wins with three knockouts. She also dropped a UD to fellow Japanese Yumiko Shimooka last December 11 at the Korakuen Hall.
