In a major upset, the comeback of former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (66-11, 54 KOs) was dealt a crushing blow by ex-champ Tomás “Gusano” Rojas (49-16-1, 33 KOs), who scored a twelve round majority decision at the famed Arena Coliseo in Mexico City. Hammer-fisted Gonzalez tried for the knockout while Rojas piled up points. The knockout never came and the final tallies were 114-114, 114-113 and 116-112 for Rojas. Rojas, who had lost two of his last three, seized Gonzalez’ WBC international belt and likely derailed Jhonny’s plans for a 130lb world title fight.
