Roger Gutiérrez retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Featherweight crown by defeating René Alvarado by unanimous decision this Saturday night at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.
The Venezuelan got cards of 116-112, 116-112, and 115-113, making this his first defense of the 130-pound championship in his third fight against the Nicaraguan.
The native of Zulia, Venezuela, came from snatching the belt from Alvarado on January 2nd in an action-packed fight in which he knocked down the Central American three times and beat him in a close decision at the end.
This time the fight did not have as much action as their previous one but “The Kid” fought with a lot of strategies to keep his opponent away and was able to connect him with the strongest blows in counterattack to win most of the rounds.
The 26-year-old now has 26 wins, 3 losses, 1 draw, and 20 KOs, while Alvarado has 32 wins, 9 losses, and 21 KOs.
