Happy Birthday Gerry Peñalosa

By Carlos Costa

He became one of the post popular and beloved Filipino boxers ever.   Easy to smile, polite and friendly, the now retired, former two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa (55-8-2, 37 KO’s), celebrates today, August 7, his 47th birthday.

A highly technical boxer known as “Fearless,” the southpaw Gerry Peñalosa battled the very best of fighters in world from minimumweight to bantamweight, no catch-weights, bringing glory and honor to the Philippines.
His skills and heart lead him to capture the WBC and lineal super flyweight world titles in 1997 as well to claim the WBO bantamweight world crown ten years later.

Yes, Gerry Peñalosa fought anyone, anywhere from 1989 to 2010.    Twenty-one years on top of the ring, and he loved every minute.

After completing a successful professional boxing career, Gerry became a successful boxing promoter.    That’s his job now, as well as being a husband and a father.

His promotional outfit GerryPens is currently producing the highly rated televised reality show Ultimate Boxing Series (UBS), being broadcast on ESPN5 Philippines.

Together with his beautiful wife Goodie, Gerry have formed a blessed happy and religious family, devoted the service of Our Lord Jesus.     Happily and humbly, Peñalosa is a role model for young boxers in our country.

His dear brother Dodie Boy Peñalosa was also a two-weigh class world champion, and his nephews Carlo and Dave are world-ranked boxers with future in boxing.

What a wonderful opportunity for FightnewsASIA.com to wish his old friend Gerry Peñalosa so many blessings, health and happiness together with this beautiful family.

Happy birthday Gerry Peñalosa!
