Hardy vs Vincent II results: Heather Hardy wins WBO featherweight title

Heather Hardy did it again, beating Shelly Vincent in tonight’s rematch.

The rematch didn’t turn out to be the barnburner that the first meeting was, but Heather Hardy put on an entertaining show with Shelly Vincent again tonight on HBO, outpointing Vincent for the second time to win the vacant WBO featherweight title.

Hardy (22-0, 4 KO) won on scores of 97-93, 97-93, and 99-91. BLH scored it 99-91 for Hardy.

Much of the fight was competitive, with Hardy winning some good rounds, especially early, before she settled in and outboxed Vincent (23-2, 1 KO) down the stretch.

The main key for Hardy was her body work, landing with some really good right hands many times, and she also mixed in a nice uppercut that Vincent seemed to have problems avoiding. Vincent fought hard, but smothered a lot of her own work on the inside, too, and down the stretch, after a second cut, Hardy boxed smarter and was able to keep distance a bit better.

The world title is the first for Hardy, 36, who has held minor trinkets before, but had never actually fought for a world title before.

Hardy landed 206 of 622 (33%) of her total punches, including 154 of 353 (44%) power punches, many to the body, and hers appeared to be the harder shots. Vincent landed 148 of 683 (22%) of her total punches, and 134 of 494 (27%) of her power shots. Hardy outlanded Vincent 62-15 in body shots.
