By Doug GibsonAt the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah, Saturday night, Jose Haro, 13-1-1, West Jordan, Utah, won the American Boxing Association featherweight title with a fourth-round KO over Tijuana’s Sergio Najera. A body shot felled Najera for the count.
In the co-main event, local cruiserweight Jesse West, 8-1, scored his biggest win with a decisive 6 round decision over Anthony Johnson, 8-1, of San Jose, Calif.
In four-round bouts, welterweight Larry Gomez, 5-0, stopped LJ Shulz in round one; middleweights Tim Carroll and Enrique O’Jada, drew; welterweight Justin Morales stopped Gabe Pelayo in round two; and middleweights Michael Gomez and Robby Wyatt drew.
A trio of Allentown, Pa. boxers had successful scheduled four-round pro debuts with Juan Sanchez, 122 pounds, stopping Richard Morales in two, Martino Jules, 126 pounds, outpointing Javier Cepeda, and 130 pounder Hector Bayanilla stopping Jair Nava in round three.
Several hundred packed a ballroom at the Davis Conference Center. Imperial Promotions was the promoter.
