Teiken Promotion announced that on September 16th at the Arena Edion in Osaka, Japan, Mexican Hugo “Cuatito” Ruiz, stakes his WBC super bantamweight belt.
Japanese southpaw former bantamweight and featherweight champion, Hozumi Hasegawa (35-5, 15 KOs), aged 35, will challenge world champion Ruiz (36-3, 32 KOs), aged 29. It`s Hugo`s first title defense.
For Hasegawa, who is a former WBC bantamweight champion with 10 defenses, this will be his 16th title fight,
Hozumi is aware this will be his final title opportunity and maybe the last fight of his career. If he wins, Hasegawa will become the oldest Japanese boxer to win a world title. On fight night he will be 35 years and 9 months. The current mark belongs to Takashi Koshimoto.
Also, if he wins he would became the 4th Japanese boxer to conquer three different weight categories, joining Koki Kameda (light flyweight, flyweight & bantamweight), Kazuto Ioka (minimum-weight, lt.flyweight and flyweight) and Akira Yaegashi (minimumweight, light flyweight and flyweight).
