Eddie Hearn is still expecting a Dillian Whyte-Dereck Chisora matchup, despite the comments of Luis Ortiz.
Dillian Whyte still needs an opponent for his December 22 fight, and promoter Eddie Hearn seems to have it down to two: Dereck Chisora and Luis Ortiz.
Hearn told Sky Sports that, to no surprise, the Chisora rematch is still the leading candidate:
“Chisora is still definitely the front-runner. Ortiz is scheduled to fight on the Wilder-Fury card on December 1 and wanted to make some noise by saying, ‘I want to fight Dillian Whyte.’ Maybe he will. Chisora is a big fight and one we’ve been working on for a while. Dillian Whyte will be boxing December 22, whatever happens, and I think it will be against Chisora.”
It’s no surprise because Hearn promotes both Whyte and Chisora — and, frankly, Chisora is a far lesser threat to an Anthony Joshua-Dillian Whyte rematch in April 2019 at Wembley Stadium, which seems the lead contender for that date with Deontay Wilder up in the air regarding a Joshua clash.
The smart money is on Whyte-Chisora II, which Whyte didn’t want at first, but the fight is being negotiated. Whyte beat Chisora in a competitive and entertaining brawl in December 2016.
