It’s no secret that Johny Hendricks hasn’t had the easiest time making the welterweight limit lately. After a harsh cut ruined a UFC 192 bout with Tyron Woodley, Hendricks was able to make it once before again missing ahead of his UFC 200 bout with Kelvin Gastelum.
Well, despite stating that he was probably going to go to middleweight, he’s taking another shot at 170 (or 171). Hendricks will meet Neil Magny at UFC 207 in December.
The promotion announced the bout last night, along with another welterweight bout pitting Matt Brown against Tarec Saffiedine for the same card.
Hendricks (17-5, 12-5 UFC), the former UFC welterweight champ, has dropped three out of his last four bouts overall and two in a row. Those came by decision to Gastelum and by TKO to Stephen Thompson. Magny (18-5, 11-4 UFC) is 10-2 in his last 12, with his only losses coming to Lorenz Larkin (in his last bout) and Demian Maia.
Brown (20-15, 13-9 UFC) is badly in need of a win after dropping four out of his last five. He was stopped by Jake Ellenberger in under two minutes in his last bout at UFC 201. Saffiedine (16-5, 2-2 UFC), is coming off a decision loss to Rick Story in May.
UFC 207 goes down on December 30th in Las Vegas. It will be headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Amanda Nunes and former champ Ronda Rousey.
