Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will return to the 135 lbs division for a main event bout vs. Bethe Correia.
Having failed to capture the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title, Holly Holm is returning to the bantamweight division, where she was once champion. MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz reported on Tuesday that Holm is slated to headline UFC Singapore on Saturday, June 17th against one-time 135 lbs title challenger Bethe Correia. UFC officials have not formally announced the matchup for this event, which will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
Holm (10-3) is seeking to end her three-fight losing skid, which started with the loss of her UFC title to Miesha Tate at UFC 196 last March. She then lost a unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko in the UFC on FOX 20 main event in July. Holm moved up to 145 to face Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208, and lost by unanimous decision in a fight marred by de Randamie hitting her after the horn had sounded on two occasions. The last time Holm won was her famous head kick KO of Ronda Rousey at UFC 193.
Correia (10-2-1) saw her undefeated record quickly end at the hands of Rousey in the fight preceding Ronda’s eventual downfall vs. Holm. The Brazilian then suffered a split decision defeat vs. Raquel Pennington at UFC on FOX 18 last April, before getting back on the winning track with a split decision in her favor vs. Jessica Eye at UFC 203. Correia’s most recent appearance was at UFC Fortaleza last month, when she and Marion Reneau fought to a draw.
UFC Fight Night: Singapore takes place inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Also slated for the card is a welterweight matchup between ex-lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjosand Tarec Saffiedine, as well as another welterweight bout pitting Dong Hyun Kimagainst Colby Covington, and a heavyweight bout featuring Andrei Arlovski against Marcin Tybura.
