Humberto Bandenay will be returning to the Octagon next month.
The Peruvian fighter will be stepping in on short notice to take on fellow featherweight Alexander Volkanovski at UFC Sydney (UFC Fight Night 121), which is set to go down on Nov. 18 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. Bandenay replaces an injured Jeremy Kennedy.
The news was first reported by Tom Taylor on Wednesday and was later announced by the promotion.
The 23-year-old Bandenay is coming off a first-round knockout victory over The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America season 3 winner Martin Bravo. The fight with Bravo, which was taken on short notice too, marked Bandenay’s UFC debut. The Team Oyama product is currently 14-4 in his MMA career.
Meanwhile, Volkanovski is on an impressive 12-fight win streak that includes two wins under the UFC banner. In his last outing back in June, the Australian fighter defeated veteran Mizuto Hirota in a unanimous decision. Volkanovski is 15-1 as a professional fighter.
