Junior welterweight prospect Mario Barrios remained unbeaten tonight on FOX, wiping out Juan Jose Velasco in the Hurd-Williams co-feature from Fairfax, Virginia.
Barrios (24-0, 16 KO) landed a nasty body shot in round two, and Velasco (20-2, 12 KO) had a delayed reaction before going down for the full 10 count.

Barrios, who turns 24 next weekend, has somewhat stagnated as far as upping the level of competition, but he’s young and doing the jobs put in front of him, too. Velasco hadn’t fought since a TKO loss to Regis Prograis in July 2018.
The official time of the stoppage was 1:16 of round two. You can see it here. It’s quick, but it’s a hard shot.

“I stuck to our game plan. Just being smart, starting off with my jab, I was being patient. I had 10 rounds to work, there was no rush. I know he’s a strong puncher, I could feel it on my arms,” Barrios said.
“I want that world champion. I want all the smoke. I’m ready. I’ve proven it my past eight fights at 140, I’m ready for that title shot.”
