Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn posted news on Twitter that he received a letter from the IBF ordering his fighter, Dillian Whyte, to take on Kubrat Pulev in a final eliminator to become Anthony Joshua’s mandatory challenger.
Just recieved a letter from the IBF ordering a final eliminator for the mandatory position between @DillianWhyte and @KubratPulev – interesting times for the division!
Whyte (23-1, 17 KOs) is just coming off a knockout win over Lucas Browne a little over a week ago and is currently the No. 1 contender for Deontay Wilder’s WBC belt. Meanwhile Pulev (25-1, 13 KOs) hasn’t fought since April of last year, taking a unanimous decision over Kevin Johnson.
Pulev had been on deck to face Anthony Joshua in October 2017, but Pulev would suffer an injured shoulder which prompted Joshua to face Carlos Takam instead. Pulev still doesn’t have anything on schedule.
With this news it would seem that Whyte is in a pretty good position as he has a few options on the table for the near future. We’ll just have to see what course he decides to take.
