Inoue vs Rodriguez: Emmanuel Rodriguez’s team alleging poor treatment in Scotland

In a video post on Facebook, trainer William Cruz and co-trainer Catalino “Cano” Matos are claiming unfair treatment against IBF bantamweight titleholder Emmanuel Rodriguez in Glasgow this week, as Rodriguez prepares for his World Boxing Super Series semifinal bout with Naoya Inoue on Saturday.

The Facebook translation from Spanish to English isn’t perfect, but I’ll do my best with it here.

“There is a situation occurring that is making us uncomfortable. In the past, I have never seen a commission, if it’s true what they’re saying, making a fighter do three weight checks. We had one yesterday, and today they came back to bother us. And now they’re saying we need to weigh a different weight from yesterday. But to move the situation along and avoid problems, we went with them to Manny’s room to again put him on the scale, to please the whims of these people. We go up to his room and Manny is below their suggested weight. These situations are already bothering us.”

“If they want to know if we are mad, yes we are! But they are not going to wreck our concentration for the event.”

William Cruz

“The commission is not demanding it, there is no rule as such. The IBF is not demanding it, either. Leaving the press conference yesterday, they had Manny weigh himself, that was totally unnecessary. Notwithstanding that also today, they are required to weigh when tomorrow is the weigh-in. Honestly, it is a pattern to mess with the whole team. The good thing about this situation is that Manny is in total rest. This is something that we let you guys know, because obviously, all of you should know this. Manny, thank God, is oblivious to all this. But to make them aware of all the things they want to do, this is one of them.”

“We are definitely going to win, but we want for Puerto Rico to know that here in Scotland, they want to make it impossible for us. … The Japanese and Inoue’s team, what they are doing is totally unprofessional. … We’re going to face whoever they call the ‘Monster,’ and we are also facing the promoters that do not want us to win. We are facing everything! And even then we will get the victory, I assure you.”

Worth noting, while we’re here, that Cruz admitted to shoving Shingo Inoue, the father-trainer of Naoya, earlier this week at media workouts.

Bad Left Hook will have live coverage of Inoue vs Rodriguez and Taylor vs Baranchyk on Saturday at 2:00 pm ET streaming live on DAZN
