Iranian Muay Thai boxers earns 2 silver medals in 2017 World Games

Iranian Muay Thai boxers have made use of a wide array of striking and clinching techniques at the 2017 World Games in Poland, and managed to take home two silver medals t the international multi-sport event.

On Sunday, Ali Zarrinfar lost to his Ukrainian opponent Igor Liubchenko in the final contest of the 63.5-kilogram weight category in the western Polish city of Wrocław, and picked up the silver medal.

Masoud Minaei also faced a representative from Thailand in the minus 71-kilogram, and lost the fight to earn a silver.

Muay Thai is a combat sport of Thailand, which uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.

It includes combat on shins and is known as “the art of eight limbs.”

Muay Thai is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient.

The 2017 World Games, commonly known as Wrocław 2017, kicked off in Wrocław, Poland, on July 20 and wrapped up on July 30. A total of 3,234 athletes from 104 nations participated in the multi-sport event.
